About Fumi
Matsumoto’s block prints are made from carved linoleum blocks of various sizes and feature multiple images. She uses brewed teabag papers, disassembled and reassembled, to create her prints. As an Alaskan artist, she is inspired by local wildlife, particularly intelligent Corvids such as ravens, jays, magpies, and crows. Their adaptability and protective behaviors showcase their resourcefulness. Fumi incorporates recycled papers, showing her respect for the environment. Friends and collectors often save teabags for her, with lighter sheets from green or herbal teas and darker sheets from black teas like Earl Grey. The unique colors and textures of the teabags enhance each print. “Printing on tea bags,” she explains, describing her art process.
